It's Here--Sort Of

I got an email from Christy today from Creative Yarns, and my loom is in! Since I didn't check my email until 5:30 and the shop closes at 6:00, I guess it's here--sort of. I'm so excited that I have been busy planning my first project. I just hope I have enough yardage...Thankfully my hubby is going to pick it up tomorrow as he has the day off. Pics coming soon...promise.

Day 1 - Part 2

So there I was itching to weave, but no loom. Frankly I didn't have $500-$800 for a table either. Back to knitting again...then it happened, horrors upon horrors -- tendonitis! Every time I picked up my needles, my arm ached for days until I gave it up altogether.

After taking September - January off, I decided to take it easy and try a hat. But a few days of only knitting a few rows at a time, I put the kabash on that. Who wants to take a month to knit a stinking hat!!!

With mounds of yarns what a knitter to do? Weave, and so I am back to the Weavette until my rigid heddle comes in, and all of YOU guys can help me along!

Day 1 - Part 1

Well, I am new to weaving, and I thought I would document the whole warped and knotted thing as I learned about weaving. It all started with a palm-sized Weavette that I saw on the Martha Stewart show, and I had to have it. A few searches on the Internet, and BLAM-O, one was on the way!

I wove a bunch of squares on it that really made a so-so yarn quite beautiful, but I could never figure out how to put the blocks together. I was always a block short for anything I could think of: scarf, pillowcase, nosewarmer...you get the idea.

Anywhoo, it was all on the back burner as I merrily knitted along UNTIL.... I took an actual weaving class at Creative Yarns. I was smitten although I didn't particularly like the scarf project I was working on. The colors were ALL wrong. In fact, so wrong that I gave it to a sympathetic friend. She couldn't help but be sympathetic since she is an art teacher and could at least appreciate my attempt. Did I mention she was a good friend too?
